At the Lake O' The Pines Rallye last weekend we had on display the radical 1970's dragster called the Hogslayer 3. It's a three engine Norton monster. Although it is technically pretty cool, it's weight made it slower than the engine output could make up for and it never raced. It's just a cool Norton statue. It belongs to the rally's invited grand marshal, TC Christenson, the pilot of the Hogslayer drag bikes of the 1970's. That explains the bike.
The other element in the photo is painter Alton Gillespie. Alton is a Peckerhead, and in the pin-striping hall of fame. He agreed to paint a picture of the Hogslayer 3 during the rally to be auctioned off for the club. The idea was that he had three days to finish as much of the painting as possible, and then finish the details in his studio. When it got dark on Friday night he rigged lights and kept on painting.
I saw this scene from a distance and decided to forgo my next beer and grab my camera and tripod. I told Alton to strike a Norman Rockwell pose. He held reasonably still for 3 seconds. I wish you could see the full sized image because there is a lot of detail. Makes a great 16X24 print. Contact me if desired.
